11 Nov 02Ink Cartridge Recycling Scheme
The Borough of Poole has joined forces with retailer Cartridge World to launch a printer cartridge recycling scheme for residents.
Collection boxes similar to recycling points for glass and paper can be found at all leisure centres and libraries in Poole as well as at Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre. The empty cartridges will be refilled by the company and as of next week sold as a recycled product, at half the price of a new cartridge from Cartridge World Stores on Bournemouth Road, Parkstone or Christchurch Road, Bournemouth. Alternatively cartridges can be taken to the stores and refilled while you wait.
Cllr Bob Williams, Executive Portfolio Holder for Environment and Regeneration, said: "Following the success of the recent business conference I would like to take this opportunity to ask local businesses to take the lead with this scheme, offering collection points for their staff could be one way in which they can help the community."
Louise Colclough, Environmental Sustainability Officer, Borough of Poole, said: "With more computers and printers being used, it is important to address the increasing number of disposed printer cartridges. We must encourage people to recycle as much as possible and by working in partnership with Cartridge World we can offer another service to local residents."
David Darling, Partner, Cartridge World, said: "As part of an international company with 75 stores in the UK alone, Cartridge World’s core business is the refilling of inkjet and the re-manufacturing of laser cartridges, for both home and business users. This means that not only can you save money, but also make a positive contribution towards reducing landfill space. This is a great opportunity for the people of Dorset to make a difference!"
The cartridge recycle points will be in place around Poole from this week onwards.
