Fun and Support For Your Family Life

A special event for Poole families, children and young people with disabilities and special needs is being held on Saturday 26 October at Poole Central Library and Poole Sports Centre.

A full programme of activities and workshops has been planned including music making workshops with African drummer, Noah Messomo and singer, Zoe Schwarz; creative art workshops; sporting activities; careers advice; support group information; children’s story time; face painting; health information and lots more!

Cllr Jane James, Portfolio Holder for Tackling Disadvantage, said: "This day is an excellent opportunity for families in Poole to meet and have fun with other people with the same needs and experiences. It will also provide families with a wealth of information about services that can help them. There are lots of activities and support services in Poole and I hope this event will help local people access what’s on offer."

The day will also see the launch of an exciting new service for families, children and young people with a disability or special educational needs. The new service will provide parents’ with a support network of other families, information and advice from the Children’s Information Service and access to a whole range of other services available to them.

Paul Taylor, Head of Pupil and Parent Support Services, Borough of Poole, said: "It is important that local people realise that there are activities and support services out there to help them. I hope that people will come along, join in the fun and learn more about the wide variety of support that’s out there in their local community."

More than 700 organisations nationwide are planning to mark Parents’ Week, from 21 -27 October, highlighting today’s family life and how families see themselves. To take part in the event at Poole make your way to the venues between 10am and 4pm.
