Big Beach Clean Up

As part of the Pride in Poole campaign, the Borough of Poole has teamed up with Earthkind and on 21 September they joined forces to clean the beach at Hamworthy.

Kate Hodder, Consumer Protection Officer, said: "The day proved to be a great success, the partnership between the Borough of Poole and Earthkind continues to grow and the support from local volunteers is amazing. I hope that this support will continue and future beach cleans will be as successful."

The clean up was part of a nation-wide Marine Conservation Society (MCS) annual beach clean, 134.5kg of rubbish was collected, 26 refuse bags in total. Earthkind members, Council staff and volunteers were joined by Cllr Mrs Joyce Jones to clean the beach with refreshments donated by Rockley Caravan Park.

Cllr Mrs Joyce Jones, said: "The event was a great success, it was hard work but worth it. If people kept the beach clean every day and believed, as I do, that a little effort goes a long way, Poole residents could enjoy pristine beaches all year round and in all parts of the Borough."

Jenny Waldron, Earthkind Conservation Officer, said: "The information collected whilst doing our Beach cleans helps us explain to the government the problems marine life face from our litter. The annual Beach Clean with the Borough of Poole and volunteers helps contribute towards an MCS database of information about litter which then gets forwarded onto the USA for inclusion in a world-wide database, whereby litter and marine pollution can be monitored across the globe."
