Residents and workers in Poole are set to benefit from a week long European Campaign. Electronic-Week (e-Week) informs people about how new technology can help to make work more flexible and accessible.
With a growth in the demands for more flexible working, businesses are beginning to see hot-desking (sharing desks) and telecommuting (working at home), as ways to address parking and congestion problems as well as a means to free up valuable work-space in increasingly pressured offices.
Kathy Saunders, TRAVELWISE Team Leader, Borough of Poole, said: "For Poole residents to continue to enjoy improving living standards and quality of life, everyone needs to adapt to the rapid changes in working styles. Promoting flexible working and the opportunity to meet other people or businesses that have successfully introduced such initiatives is key to the success of e-Week."
To compliment this the Wessex Travel Network (WESTNET) is being set up to enable businesses to share good practice in promoting more sustainable travel around Bournemouth and Poole. The first meeting will be held on Friday 25 October.
Laura Hirst, Business Travel Plan Co-ordinator at the Borough of Poole, said: "We want to encourage businesses in Poole to look at new technologies and make a commitment to improving work practices. Consideration of flexible working methods is an essential ingredient in Business Travel Plans and there will be an opportunity to discuss this with other local companies at the inaugural meeting of WESTNET."
