Guidance For Domestic Refuse Collection and Recycling

What can I recycle, what time must my refuse bin be out by, what amount of waste will be taken?

Worry no more. Soon a permanent sticker will appear on the lid of the bin as a reminder of the rules regarding presentation of wheelie bins for collection. The stickers, which should not be removed, also provide a handy indication of the materials which can be recycled within the borough.

Peter Pawlowski, Head of Consumer Protection, said: "By following these simple guidelines residents will be assisting the crews to provide an efficient service and prevent the spillage of materials. We are in constant touch by radio with the crews so we are quickly aware of any problems caused by, for example, parking, road accidents or mechanical failures. This enables routes to be adjusted so the pick up time for your street may vary."

The Borough of Poole currently achieves one of the highest recycling rates in the UK and our success has resulted in central government setting Poole one of toughest recycling targets for 2003/04.

The sticker advises how householders in Poole can assist the Council in achieving it’s targets by reminding people of the products that can be recycled every time they go to use their bin, along with instructions on how to present their bin on collection day.

Cllr Bob Williams said "The intention of the stickers is to increase awareness of the many household items that can now be recycled within Poole either in the kerbside collection boxes or at one of the 70 Recycling centres located throughout the Borough. The sticker also explains the correct way to display any remaining waste for collection, It is hoped that this will lead to increased levels of recycling and improved service delivery to the public alike".

The actual sticker measures 21cm x 15cm
