A new European Long Distance Walk (E9) is being launched in Poole on Saturday 21 September. The Mayors of Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch will join other distinguished guests at a special ceremony to celebrate the opening of the route. Sir John Johnson the President of the Long Distance Walkers Association and Mr Jan Havelka the President of the European Ramblers Association will unveil a commemorative plaque in the gardens between Shore Road and Banks Road at 2.15pm. Cllr Graham Mason, Mayor of Poole said: "It’s great news that Poole has got this new link to the south coast, we can show off our fabulous beaches and stunning views to anyone that would like to walk through our town. I’m not sure if I’ll be walking the whole journey to the Russian border quite yet but if the surroundings are as good as they are here - I could be tempted!" The UK part of the route will run between Plymouth and Dover. The section between Milford on Sea and Poole will link the Solent Way to the South West Coast Path. The European section runs from Cape St Vincent, along the coast of Northern France, with ferry links to the UK, and eventually reaching the Estonian/Russian border, covering 5,000km in all.
