New fleet sweeps clean

With Poole's new vehicle fleet taking to the streets, residents may have already spotted dolphins in Poole!

Refuse trucks, Day Centre buses and street sweepers display a distinctive dolphin and blue lines as part of the Poole livery. Each vehicle also displays the boroughofpoole.com logo reminding residents how they can contact the Council using the internet or find out more about local services such as bin and recycling collections.

Cllr Bob Williams, Executive Portfolio Holder for Environment and Regeneration, said: "The launch of our new vehicle fleet is the culmination of seven months working with our partners MHS. The temporary vehicles which have been used since the New Year have provided a first class service to our residents, but it's good to see our own top quality fleet with their smart Poole branding ensuring we can provide the high level of service local people demand."

Simon Hall, Contract Hire Director of MHS, said: "MHS works with Councils throughout the UK, our vehicles offer the very latest technology providing staff with multiple use vehicles, extra security features and the safest levels of machinery. Today's launch marks the arrival of Poole's own fleet and the start of a long term partnership."

The partnership was formed with MHS as a result of a Best Value review in 2000 and its implementation followed a series of vehicle breakdowns in Poole's old fleet last year.

The contract runs for 15 years and amounts to £18 million.

The new fleet comprises of a total of 140 vehicles including:

15 refuse trucks
2 roadside sweepers
5 kerbside sweepers
1 pedestrian sweeper
15 highways maintenance vehicles
4 day centre buses
