Jules Jolliffe Breaks the Record!

The Jules Jolliffe campaign was designed to engage Poole people in choosing how their council should be run in future

A record 28,485 had their say following Poole's innovative campaign 'Who is Jules Jolliffe?

A staggering 26.4% of Poole people responded to the eye-catching campaign which raised awareness of the changes facing Poole and Councils across the country.

Freepost consultation response cards, together with information about the 3 options facing Poole were sent to the Borough's 107,898 residents registered on the electoral role.

Views from nearly 4000 local businesses, 350 community groups, electronic voting and a Poole Jury will be used together with the responses by a special 'judgement board' appointed from amongst members of the local community on 18 May.

Cllr Brian Clements, Leader of the Council, said: "This is fantastic news and we are delighted by the response. In 1998 when we did the last Household Interview Survey, only 17% of Poole residents said they would like to have more of a say in what the Council does and the services it provides. This high response demonstrates how important local services actually are to Poole people. I'd like to thank everyone who took the opportunity to have their say by returning their cards or coming along to the Question Time sessions and roadshows."

Following the 'judgement board', Councillors will make a final decision about which option Poole should adopt at a meeting of the Full Council on 26 June. The meeting starts at 7pm at the Civic Centre and is open to the public. The new system will be put into place no later than the end of 2002.

Editor's Notes:

In the UK, under 10% of electors have responded to Local Authorities consultation on the options for modernisation, making Poole's the highest response so far.
