Teacher Training Programme Appoints Manager

The Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset East School Centred Initial Teacher Training partnership (SCITT) has appointed its new programme manager, Roger Lister.

Roger has spent a 23 year career in a variety of different schools. For the last five years he has been Deputy Head of a large high school on the Isle of Wight. For him, the BPDE SCITT represents an real commitment from those in education locally to invest in the training the teachers of the future.

The SCITT is a collaboration between three LEAs and nine schools - all of which with extensive experience of Initial Teacher Training and success in teaching and learning. The course is distinctive in that it is predominantly school-based.

Currently, the SCITT programme is recruiting in the key shortage subjects of Mathematics, Science, Modern Foreign Languages and Design Technology.

Roger Lister, Programme Manager, SCITT, said: ''We hope to attract graduates who may not previously have been able to consider a career in teaching, although of course we welcome applications from all backgrounds.

"By next summer, we shall see 24 high-quality graduates with qualified teacher status, about to take up their first appointment in a local school, having made the most of the high quality training opportunities that the partnership offers."

Roger takes up his post formally on 1 September, but will be working with the already established Management Group over the next few months to prepare the way for a successful start in the Autumn Term. If you would like more information visit www.bpdescitt.org.uk.
