14 Jul 04Professional Theatre Company Launch in Poole
New theatre company Fladermouse Productions is showcasing its opening production of Ben Elton’s Popcorn at the Lighthouse, Poole’s arts centre, on 22 and 23 July. The play is being performed to a specially invited audience of theatre professionals with a view to putting on a production at a local venue. The company, which is made up of dedicated professionals from the area, use digital technology and special effects to create a modern approach to theatre to attract new audiences. Fladermouse Productions has been working in partnership with the Borough of Poole’s Arts Development Team, the Prince’s Trust and the Lighthouse. Cast and crew have been working in the community undertaking projects in schools and working with local groups. Tony Woodcock, Portfolio Holder for Learning, said "I welcome this new group starting up and very much look forward to seeing future productions, it is an excellent initiative which needs support from both the Council and the wider community." Nickola Moore, Arts Development Manager, Culture and Community Services, Borough of Poole, said: "This is an exiting opportunity for this young company to showcase their exceptional talent and we welcome the opportunity in the Arts Development unit to support them" -ENDS- Editors notes Theatre company front man Richard Batt set up the company in 2003 with a successful run of Tim Frith’s Neville Island The cast are all professional actors who have local ties but have been forced to leave for London in order to find work. They hope to offer further employment opportunities for local artists.
