22 Oct 04Make a Difference Day
The UK’s biggest day of hands-on volunteering, attracting nearly 100,000 people every year is coming to Poole on October 30. As part of the Borough of Poole’s commitment to Pride in Poole and the enhancement of the local environment, the Borough will be teaming up with community volunteers to enhance an area of Canford Heath as part of Make a Difference Day. A whole host of activities are planned for the day including bulb planting, graffiti removal, chewing gum removal, litter picking and fly tip clearing. The Borough of Poole will also be offering reduced priced micro-chipping of family pets, promoting their new environmental response unit, promoting the new kerbside recycling scheme and Pride in Poole campaign and other environmental issues. Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: "The event is an opportunity for everyone to build community spirit by meeting their neighbours and by making a positive impact in their community." So if you want to get involved in enhancing your local environment, why not come and join your neighbours for a fun and active day making your neighbourhood a cleaner, greener and safer place for everyone to enjoy. There will be free sweets, balloons and Pride in Poole badges for all our younger volunteers together with the chance to meet the Borough of Poole’s mascot Spruce the dolphin. The event is set to take place on Saturday 30 October starting at 10:00am, meeting outside Canford Heath Library, Adastral Square.
