Poole’s Arts Development Unit teamed up with clients from the Seaview Centre for Adults with Learning Disabilities and the Community Support Team for a four-day visual arts workshop called Canvas.
Working alongside professional painter Alex Hudson in the Stables Artist Studios at Holton Lee, the group explored their creative sides to conjure up a number of stunning works of art.
Holton Lee is a charitable organisation set in 350 acres of stunning landscape which became the group’s main inspiration for the ten large-scale paintings. Inspired by the project, one of the participants, Sheila Minett, said: “It was a real success, we looked at trees and horses, gorse and heather. I am going to do some more at home.”
The work will be on permanent exhibition in a new cafe due to be opened at Seaview Centre in April. Lead Artist on the project, Alex Hudson, said: “The success of the project is proven in the quality of the work which is very interesting and should look fantastic in the café.”
Cllr Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Learning, Borough of Poole, said: “It is wonderful that community art projects such as this find ways of expanding people’s creative horizons by really appreciating the beautiful environment we have here on our doorstep.”
