NVQ Success for Poole's Parking Team

Poole’s parking attendants are celebrating success once again as four members of staff are awarded NVQ Certificates in Parking Control.

Three years ago Borough of Poole wardens were the first in Dorset to gain a recognised National Vocational Qualification in Parking. This covers a number of assessments including developing and maintaining positive working relations with customers and dealing with confrontation.

Following on from these achievements, in 2003 Poole Parking Services became an approved SITO (Security Industry Training Organisation) assessment centre enabling them to assess other local authorities and award NVQs to their parking teams. The Parking Services Assessment Centre is headed up by Richard Hein, Parking Services Manager, Borough of Poole as Internal Verifier and Quality Control Manager.

Richard said: "It is great that we can continue to develop staff in-house and enable them to gain an additional formal qualification. Our staff have had to be highly motivated and committed to complete these NVQ’s as well as their day to day responsibilities and they are an asset to the team."

Jim Bright, Head of Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: "Our congratulations to the candidates and assessors for their hard work. This new assessment centre demonstrates a clear commitment to training and building on the skills of our staff at Poole."

Notes:

The NVQ System is a qualification designed to improve the skill levels of the whole workforce. There are five key differences between NVQ’s and other qualifications;

  1. An NVQ assures quality of performance
  2. NVQs have breadth because they are based on National Standards
  3. NVQs are more flexible
  4. NVQs are focused on the workplace
  5. NVQs are developed and controlled by a single national organisation

The Four members of staff who achieved their NVQ are Gerry Silwood, Graham Hartless, Shaun Small and John Allistone.
