2 Aug 04Route One is Just The Ticket for Mayor
Shoppers in Poole used to seeing the usual red Wilts & Dorset buses were surprised to see two blue buses running around the town centre. The distinctive hopper buses operate the new 'Route ONE' circular service which links the town centre with the Hospital, Railway Station, Old Town and Quay and all the main town centre car parks. A flat rate 50-pence fare per adult passenger is charged allowing people to hop on and off all day.

The service has proved an instant hit with locals and visitors alike, especially with one family on holiday from London who unexpectedly found themselves sharing their journey with the Mayor of Poole, Councillor Les Burden, as he officially launched the new service. Tracey Cipolla with her son Roberto, his friend Alexander and 8-month old twins Marco and Gianluca, hopped on after visiting the Quay.
Mrs Cipolla said: "The children were getting tired on the Quay and it was too far for them to walk to where we are staying in Churchfield Road. This bus is great as I can stroll straight on with my double-buggy and the 50p all-day fare is a bargain."
Route ONE is a fast and convenient bus service for everyone who shops or works in the town centre or Quay areas. As it serves most of the car parks it will provide a greater choice of parking options for drivers.
Mayor Les Burden said: "The distinctive pale blue buses with the Route ONE logo on the side really stand out. Getting across the town centre to the hospital or down to the Quay is easier than ever and the views from the bus at Baiter Park are fantastic."
