A unique sporting event is to be held in Poole, aimed at encouraging people from all walks of life to think about sport and the benefits it can bring.
Poole schools, local residents and young people are invited to go along and try over 40 different sports, from canoeing to rock climbing and handball to dance. Local clubs with specialist coaches will be on hand to give everyone an opportunity to try a sport.
Jane Portman, Chief Adviser for the Borough of Poole, said: "This is a great opportunity for everyone to try a sport which they may not have considered doing before. It will be tremendous fun for young people, parents and residents. Sport provides a positive lifelong experience; it raises self-esteem, improves social relationships and raises educational attainment. Poole LEA is pleased to stage this event as part of its School Sport Co-ordinator Programme."
Bournemouth University and Bournemouth & Poole College will join sports colleges from across the South of England in putting on events throughout the day. There will also be demonstrations by organisations such as the Red Cross on first aid in sport, companies promoting healthy living and retailers of sports equipment. Local clubs will also be looking to attract new members.
Councillor Tony Woodcock, Portfolio Holder for Learning, Borough of Poole, said: "I am pleased to see such an event taking place in Poole. Being fit and healthy is an important aspect of education - a healthy mind in a healthy body so the saying goes! - and it sounds like this roadshow will demonstrate how much fun it can be, as well as helping to improve your lifestyle."
