Poole’s top building projects have been honoured at national awards that highlight the best of the British construction industry.
The schemes, all in partnership with the Borough of Poole’s Building Consultancy Services, were each finalists in the Built in Quality Awards 2005 – an annual awards event organised by National Local Authority Building Control (LABC) and Building Magazine and held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
All projects that are nominated for the finals are projects in the UK that best demonstrate what can be achieved by the British construction industry and its Local Authority Building Control Officers.
The Poole projects were:
Awarded Highly Commended: Best Public/Community Project
RNLI Lifeboat College and Survival Centre, Borough of Poole/Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects/Dean and Dyball Construction/ RNLI
Finalist: Best Partnership with a Client or House Builder
Borough of Poole and Primetower Properties (local building developer )
Finalist: Best Partnership with an Architect
Borough of Poole and Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects (one of the RNLI’s national architects and designers of the RNLI Lifeboat College)
Cllr Ron Parker, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Local Economy, Borough of Poole, said: “We’ve worked hard to build strong and effective relationships with key partners in the building industry. The fact that we now act as LABC Partners for the RNLI, not only in Poole but nationwide, is a strong testimony to the success of our approach. This awards ceremony recognises the achievements of our Building Consultancy staff in developing these working partnerships with designers, builders and clients.”
Sue Hennessey, RNLI Lifeboat College Principal, said: “It was a great honour to receive ‘Highly Commended’ for the RNLI Lifeboat College amongst such prestigious competition. Our whole construction team worked so well together throughout the project to deliver an outstanding building. This award is a credit to all.”
Mark MacCarty, Company Architect for Primetower Properties, said: “Whilst we did not win our category it was very satisfying to be judged alongside such household names as Marks & Spencer and Ikea and be in the company of so many landmark buildings. The Borough should take considerable pride from such a strong showing in the finals.”
