News Release Building on the success of last year, the Borough of Poole’s Culture and Community Learning Team are offering a bigger and better Word and Book festival for you to enjoy in 2003. \n From 3 – 18 October, venues across the Borough will be presenting a variety of exciting activities and events. Catering for all ages and tastes and offering across the board insights into literacy and culture, there will be something for everyone. Nickola Moore, Festival Organiser, Arts Development Team, said: "This year we have many local partners working with us to offer an excellent selection of events. There will be a poetry slam at the Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts, historical walks through the back streets of Poole, book signings by celebrity authors, visual art exhibitions, creative writing workshops and much more." Kate Adie, the BBCs chief news correspondent, will open the Book Festival on Friday 3 October at Ottakar’s book store in Poole. Along with Kate other celebrities including Jeremy Bowen, the senior world affairs correspondent for the BBC, will be appearing during the festival. Councillor Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Learning, said: "This festival is a wonderful example of the work happening in the Arts throughout the Borough of Poole. I welcome this celebration of the written and spoken word and I hope it encourages more awareness of reading for recreation and study." Acclaimed authors such as Minette Walters who is one of the most exciting and successful crime novelists writing today and Bernard Cornwell, author of the hugely popular Sharpe series of novels, will be talking about their latest books. Many marvellous activities are taking place for children and there are activities for keen adult readers and those wishing to develop writing skills. Beverley Naidoo, acclaimed author and winner of the Carnegie award for children’s fiction, is one of the many authors that children can meet.
