Poole Scores High Again!

‘A Council that is improving well and demonstrating a 3 star overall performance’.  That is the message once again for Poole from the Audit Commission link will open in new window under the Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) link will open in new window framework.  The framework consists of star ratings,
4 being the highest and 0 the lowest, and a direction of travel statement.

A recent independent satisfaction survey of 3,000 Poole residents rated Poole Council the best out of 46 unitary authorities in England and ranked 6th overall in the country out of 149 local Councils. Figures published by the Audit Commission showed that Poole was the top-rated of 46 Unitary Authorities in England, based on overall levels of customer satisfaction.

The 2006 Best Value Residents Satisfaction Survey revealed 63% of residents who responded to the questionnaire said that, overall, they were either satisfied or very satisfied with the performance of the Council, an increase of 10% on the results of a similar survey in 2003.

Cllr Brian Leverett, Leader of the Council, said: “These results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff working to the high standards we are setting in Poole. We are totally committed to improving services  to residents in the town and recent satisfaction results show that we are doing a good job but there is someway to go. We will continue to improve service concentrating on those areas that need extra attention, ensuring that Poole remains both a good and improving authority, striving for excellence.”

The assessment recognises that the Council has continued to improve most priority services, highlighting services for children and young people, and adult social services – helping people maintain their independence, especially older people.  Further improvements are in recycling levels and reduced landfill; reduced use of bed & breakfast and hostel accommodation; and in securing good levels of affordable housing.

John McBride, Chief Executive, said:  “This years’ assessment recognises that educational performance remains strong, although there is still scope for improvement  in some areas and educational achievement will remain a key priority for the Council. Our performance in social services has been recognised as amongst the best in the South West. The report highlights a number of areas such as planning and housing benefits where we still need to improve but because it is reporting on the year 2005/6, we have most of these in our sights already. Overall this has been another successful year for the Council and is testimony yet again to the skilled and dedicated work force.”
