Borough of Poole is exploring fresh funding opportunities for the delivery of the Twin Sails project and improvements to the wider road network.
A report, to be considered by Cabinet members on September 9, recommends the submission of funding bids for more than £13 million under the Government's Regional Funding Allocation
programme.

Funding for the Twin Sails project and transport infrastructure was expected to come from a combination of council resources, public sector grants and developer contributions.
This remains the council's position, but changing economic circumstances and new funding opportunities make it appropriate to review the strategy for delivering the project.
Cllr Brian Leverett, Leader of the Council, said: "We are committed to delivering a second crossing for Poole, but equally we are determined that it cannot be a bridge at any cost. Delivering any major transport scheme of this size and complexity is a considerable challenge and can be subject to changing circumstances.
"Our vision has not changed, but it makes sense for the council to explore every viable option for delivering the bridge at the earliest opportunity."
An initial bid to secure funding from the Government's Community Infrastructure Fund in support of the project and improvements to the road network was unsuccessful. However, the council remains optimistic that further bids for public sector funding are an achievable goal.
Jim Bright, Strategic Director for Borough of Poole, said: "The Twin Sails project has been identified as a priority scheme for the South West region. The Community Infrastructure Fund bid was not successful, but this reflects the fact that the South West only received half of its predicted allocation.
"The Regional Funding Allocation process gives the council a fresh opportunity to submit further bids to support the delivery of infrastructure."
Detailed designs of the Twin Sails Bridge and the preparation work for procurement have been completed and a Transport and Works Order Act and planning consent for the bridge are in place.
