4 Nov 08Poole Expands Recycling Collection Points Service Over Winter
Borough of Poole will now accept electrical items and textiles at the garden waste recycling collection points in an effort to make recycling easier for residents.
Environmental and Consumer Protection Services (E&CPS) is providing five recycling collection points to replace the green kerb-side collection service during the winter period.
The service has been expanded to include additional items to improve Poole's already successful recycling rate.
Small electrical items such as microwaves, hairdryers and toasters and textiles including clothes, fabrics and shoes are examples of what can now be recycled at the sites.
Accepted garden waste items include grass cuttings, hedge and shrub clippings, plants and weeds, leaves, twigs, branches and bark, cut flowers, pot plant compost and cardboard.
The collections sites will be available to Poole residents between November 1 and March 28, 2009. The locations of the sites are Lake Pier Car Park, St Barnabas Church, Western Road Car Park, Rossmore Leisure Centre and Harbourside 2 Car Park.
The next garden waste collection points will be held on Saturday November 8 at Western Road Car Park, Canford Cliffs and Rossmore Leisure Centre, Alderney between 9am and 12pm, and at Harbourside 2 Car Park, Poole from 1pm to 4pm.
Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: "Providing five sites this year and expanding the service to include electrical items and textiles will make it easier for residents to recycle over the winter period. As the green kerb-side collection service stops it is important to encourage residents to continue garden waste recycling. This will help maintain Poole's recycling targets by reducing the amount of biodegradable waste sent to landfill."
The collection points are in addition to the Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre, where garden waste and much more can be recycled seven days a week between the hours of 8.30am and 4.30pm (last entry 4.15pm).
This service is only available to residents of Poole. Commercial waste or waste from non-Poole residents will not be accepted. Please bring proof of residency to use the garden waste collection sites or the Nuffield Household Waste and Recycling Centre such as your council tax statement or a driving licence.
