Parents and children celebrated the opening of the new Canford Heath Children's Centre - a 'one-stop shop' offering advice and support for families with young children.
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Joyce Lavender, officially opened the SureStart Children's Centre at Culliford Crescent, on Monday, October 20.
Families enjoyed the fun with plenty of entertainment and free activities for the children. As well as music, hand painting, stories, toys and other fun activities, 'Crazy Kev' the magician was on hand to help children model their very own balloon.
The new centre offers families with young children access to professional support, from advice on health and childcare to guidance on returning to work and finding employment.
Borough of Poole is opening six Children's Centres across Poole providing local access to a range of services, information and support for all parents with young children.
Vicky Wales, Head of Children and Young People's Integrated Services, Borough of Poole, said: "This is the fifth Children's Centre to be opened across Poole and will provide a great resource for young children and families on Canford Heath. It brings together childcare, early education, play and family support and parents will be encouraged to ensure services reflect their local needs. This centre is particularly fortunate to be sited in an existing Primary Care Trust building and will work alongside the existing health provision to offer full family support."
Dr Adrian Dawson, Director of Public Health, NHS Bournemouth and Poole, said: "This new children's centre is right in the heart of the community, which means more people will be able to access the services they need, closer to home. The centre is a real hub for children and their families, and for the healthcare professionals who are giving them health and well-being support, care and advice. We want to help all local people to live long and healthy lives and that means giving everyone the best start to life with centres like these."
