Statement: Barclays To Remain At Barclays House

Barclays today announced plans to remain at Barclays House rather than move its operations to a new building scheduled for development in West Quay Road, Poole.

Borough of Poole has made the following comment in reaction to the announcement:

Cllr Brian Leverett, Leader of the Council, said: "We are disappointed that Barclays has decided not to relocate to a new building scheduled for development in West Quay Road, as previously announced. The council worked hard with Barclays and developers to achieve the best possible solution for the relocation.

"We are pleased that Barclays has indicated that the jobs of its employees in Poole are secure and the company will now look at options to improve Barclays House for the benefit of its staff."

Jim Bright, Strategic Director for Borough of Poole, said: "The council will continue to work positively with Barclays to ensure Poole remains part of its long-term business plans for the region. Discussions will also be held with the developers of the West Quay Road site to explore options for the development. Planning permission for the site was granted with the unanimous support of the council's planning committee.

"We believe Barclays' decision reflects the current economic climate both nationally and internationally. Poole remains an excellent location for investment and continues to attract a lot of interest from businesses and prospective developers.

"The recent decision by Princecroft Willis' to move its flagship offices to Towngate House, following on from the Bank of New York's relocation to Poole last year, demonstrates great confidence in the town. The council will continue to work hard to achieve the right balance of development and job opportunities for the people of Poole."
