Successful Prosecution For Illegal Tree Felling

Borough of Poole has successfully prosecuted the director of a local company for illegally destroying a protected tree.

Mr Paul Kenrick of Bath Hill, Bournemouth, was found guilty of destroying the 70-year-old protected tree at Bournemouth Crown Court on Tuesday 15 July and fined £5500, including costs.

Tree and Enforcement Officers found Mr Kenrick, trading as Urban Tree and Landscaping Ltd, had illegally cut down a pine tree at a property in Haven Road, Canford Cliffs, on June 6 2007.

The case was brought to the council's attention following information from Branksome Park Residents Association that an illegal felling was due to take place in or around the area in June last year.

Russ Fisher, Senior Arboricultural Officer, Borough of Poole, said: "This conviction demonstrates the council's commitment to protecting Poole's unique environment. We will not hesitate to take legal action where trees are damaged or destroyed deliberately to gain a planning advantage."
