The Green Flag is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales.

This is the first year Poole Park has been awarded Green Flag status and to mark the achievement of everyone involved, councillors, staff, volunteers, business operators, clubs and societies celebrated at a special thank you party hosted by Borough of Poole.

Independent judges visited both parks in May assessing them on a number of criteria, including management, maintenance, health and safety, conservation and heritage, community involvement and how welcoming the parks are to visitors.

Judges were given tours of both parks and were particularly impressed with the range of activities at Poole Park and the community involvement at both sites.

Poole Park and Upton Country Park each boast more than 100 acres of parkland including woodlands at Upton and freshwater lakes at Poole, which are open and free to the public all year round.

Cllr Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure, Borough of Poole, said: "We are extremely proud that two beautiful parks in Poole have been awarded Green Flags this year. The awards not only recognise the quality of our parks but also the tireless work of everyone involved in making Poole's open spaces wonderful places to visit and enjoy."
