27 Jun 08Beach Hut Tenants Celebrate 21 Years of Blue Flag
Beach hut tenants in Sandbanks who have had their keys since 1987 celebrated at a special landmark anniversary party marking the beach's 21st year of Blue Flag
.
Tenants and their families were invited to attend an afternoon tea party at the Seafarer beach café on Thursday 26 June following the recent announcement that Sandbanks has been awarded the coveted Blue Flag for the 21st time.
Sandbanks was among only 17 British beaches to receive a Blue Flag when the scheme was first introduced to the UK in 1987. The Keep Britain Tidy Group
who led the Blue Flag Campaign in the UK inspected over 200 British beaches during the 'European Year of the Environment' for their levels of cleanliness, management, safety and provision of public information.
Cllr Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, Borough of Poole, said:" We were delighted that our beach was acknowledged for its high standards of beach quality in 1987 and we are thrilled now that we can celebrate 21 years of maintaining the same high standards. We hope that our tenants and their families who have supported us for such a long time enjoyed the celebration and continue to enjoy many more years at our award winning beach."
Andrew Silver of Banquets Catering, said: "Banquets have had a long association with the Borough of Poole and we were delighted to host the party at the Seafarer Café to celebrate such an important occasion. Sandbanks is a fabulous beach and the worthy winner of such a momentous achievement."
