Poole's Blue Flag Beaches 'Come Of Age'

Poole's beautiful beaches are basking in glory following the award of prestigious Blue Flag link will open in new window status for a recording-breaking 21st year.

Sandbanks BeachSandbanks, along with Canford Cliffs, Shore Road and Branksome Chine beaches have once again been awarded Blue Flag status, ranking them among the best in the world.

Poole has been able to proudly fly the prestigious Blue Flag for 21 years since it was first given the award in 1987.

Cllr Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure, Borough of Poole, said: "Achieving 21 years of Blue Flag status is a tremendous milestone. We can be rightly proud of Poole's beaches which I firmly believe are the best in Britain."

"Sandbanks' reputation as a world-class beach has helped to persuade organisers of Europe's first-ever beach polo tournament to stage the prestigious event in Poole this year."

Branksome Chine BeachThe Blue Flag, awarded annually by ENCAMS, is an international recognition for well-managed beaches based on a number of factors, including the quality of bathing water, cleanliness and a commitment to the environment.

Clive Smith, Head of Leisure Services, Borough of Poole, said: "This award is extremely important to us. We work hard to maintain very high standards for Poole's beaches every year. I would like to thank all our staff who, due to their hard work and dedication, have ensured that our outstanding beaches continue to rank as some of the best in the world."
