Plans Unveiled For Hamworthy Library

Residents in Hamworthy and Turlin Moor are to get their first opportunity to view and comment on plans for the new Hamworthy Library.

Visitors to Hamworthy Library will be able to view the plans and discuss the project with library staff and the architect on June 10.

The £1.9 million scheme, supported by the Big Lottery Fund and Borough of Poole, will see a new building replace the existing Hamworthy Library on the same site. It is planned to open in 2010 and will provide greatly improved library space and extended learning and community facilities.

Cllr Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure, Borough of Poole, said: "I am delighted that Poole Library Service is inviting local residents to a drop-in session to see plans for the new library. This is an exciting project that will improve local facilities and I am keen to hear local people's views of these draft proposals."

Kevin McErlane, Head of Culture and Community Learning, Borough of Poole, said: "These draft plans may still change as a result of planning or final cost considerations, but we have worked hard with our newly appointed architects, SMC Charter, to ensure the plans for the new library fairly reflect the extensive consultations we carried out last year with local groups and residents."

Over the coming months, the library service plan to hold further consultation events with local community groups, stakeholders and residents to ensure the project meets the needs of residents, including children and young people, older residents and people with disabilities and learning needs. Further details of the project will be available through Hamworthy Library.

The drop-in session with library staff takes place at Hamworthy Library on Tuesday June 10, from 12pm to 7pm. The architects will give a presentation and answer questions between 12.15pm and 2.00pm.
