29 May 08Supporting Those Who Care
People who care for relatives who have a long-term illness or disability are invited to attend local events held by Borough of Poole as part of National Carers Week
.
Events held between June 9 and 13 are free of charge to those caring for residents in Poole and include an outing to Compton Acres
, opportunities for people to take a break, meet others in similar situations, get help and information. Booking for these events is essential.
With approximately 1.25 million people in the UK providing over 50 hours of care per week, it is important carers look after their own health and well-being properly. To help them do this, part of Carers Week involve fitness sessions at Esporta Health Club
and a confidence building workshop.
Val Mitchell, Carers Services Manager, Borough of Poole said: "Carers often struggle for too long without knowing about the support and services that available to them. Many also miss out on claiming benefits that they are entitled to. Carers Week is an invaluable opportunity to meet others in a similar position and realise that you don't have to cope with caring alone."
For more information or to book onto any of the activities, or for further advice or information please call Val Mitchell on 01202 261174.
