Join A Library and Win A Prize

Poole Libraries are inviting all babies, toddlers and children to join their local library and the youngest member who joins between now and Saturday 10 May 2008 will win £25 worth of books.

The competition also coincides with the National Join A Library Day link will open in new windowon Saturday 26 April where the first 750 children, young people and families to join will receive a free copy of the Ultimate Book Guide and a library welcome pack. All libraries are open every Saturday until 1pm with the exception of Central, Broadstone and Rossmore Libraries, which close at 3pm.

A universal library membership form has now been developed making joining easier then ever. The form can be downloaded at www.yearofreading.org.uk and taken into any Poole library.

Both initiatives form part of the National Year of Reading link will open in new windowdesigned to encourage a greater national passion for reading for children, families and adult learners alike. Each month follows a different theme with April's being 'Read All About It', highlighting how people can read anything, anywhere and anytime.

It costs nothing to join a library and in Poole babies only a few days old can have their own library card, enjoying the benefits of being able to borrow up to 10 items at any one time.

Laura Sneddon, Libraries Literacy Officer for Borough of Poole said: "Our competition to search for our youngest member aims to encourage parents to use their local library and instil a love of reading in their children from a very young age".

Editors notes:

Poole Libraries have been asking their readers what reading means to them. Here are some of the answers:

- I love the fact you can be having a bad day & a good book can put you on top of the world again!

- Reading: a holiday away from everyday life but without the cost.

- A pile of books by my bed waiting to be read is my idea of heaven.

- I'm 7 years old and I think reading is great.
