8 Apr 08Poole's Town Centre Bus to Operate All Day
Poole's popular Route One town centre bus service is extending its hours.
The distinctive sky blue hopper buses, which have become a familiar sight around Poole since their introduction in 2004, will now run from 7:25am to 6:20pm, Monday to Saturday.
Route One buses follow a circular route, linking the town's car parks and bus and railway stations with many of Poole's key locations including the Quay, Poole Park and the hospital.
The extended hours will benefit commuters, as well as shoppers and residents of Poole Quarter, Baiter Park and Parkstone Road.
Borough of Poole's Transportation Services has increased the hours after Route One buses saw almost 10,000 passengers last year, although only operating off-peak, and as a result of frequent passenger requests.
Nick Phillips, Accessibility Team Leader, Borough of Poole, said: "Fares are just 50p for a single ride, or £1 for a hop-on hop-off ticket to ride all day. Even better news is that up to two accompanied children can ride for free with each fare paying adult and holders of the new English National bus pass for the over 60s will of course be welcomed.
"The enhanced service is invaluable for those visiting Poole Hospital and motorists are encouraged to leave their vehicles in a town centre car park and ride Route One to the hospital, freeing space for those who really need the space close by."
Cllr Mike White, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: "The service has been designed to support the retail economy of the town and passengers are encouraged to take a leisurely walk down the High Street and catch Route One back from the Quay with their shopping bags."
Chris Harris, Public Relations Manager for Wilts & Dorset Buses, said: "Route One is an ideal way to get around locally with the town of Poole, and connects at Poole Bus Station with buses coming in from other areas. We look forward to carrying even more people now that the buses are running for a longer part of the day."
Route One buses are fully wheelchair and pushchair accessible. Route One leaflets, including timetables and route map, are available from Poole libraries, the Dolphin Shopping Centre and Poole Quay Tourist Information Centre, as well as on www.boroughofpoole.com
