Poole Leisure Centres Get 'Everyone Active'

Three of Poole's newly refurbished leisure centres are rising to the challenge to get 'Everyone Active' link will open in new windowduring 2008.

Ashdown Leisure Centre, Dolphin Swimming Pool and Rossmore Leisure Centre have launched their new and improved services under the 'Everyone Active' brand, which encourages people to do 30 minutes of exercise, five times a week.

The launch, hosted by SLM link will open in new window and Borough of Poole, included a showcase of the centres' new facilities and explained how members of the local community can improve their health and fitness by getting active.

David Greenwood, Contract Manager for SLM, said: "The Everyone Active brand is all about people finding activities they enjoy doing at the centres and at home and then planning it into their daily life. We are helping people to commit to the '30 minutes, five times a week' exercise routine. This doesn't have to mean five visits to the gym a week; activity can be anything from swimming with the family to a brisk walk with the dog. It's about making lifestyle adjustments that will have great long term health benefits."

Cllr Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said: "One of the Council's main objectives is to promote health and well-being. By working with our partners at SLM, we are hoping to make a real difference to local people's lifestyles and health. All three leisure centres have new and improved facilities and meet the National QUEST quality & safety standard, so there has never been a better time to get active."

The three leisure centres are managed by SLM. These are all Council-owned facilities and SLM work in partnership with Borough of Poole. SLM manage 56 leisure centres nationally, all of which are launching 'Everyone Active' to try to beat obesity, inactivity and people's fear and intimidation of exercise.
