12 Dec 07Public Meeting - Solar Pyramid Proposal
Borough of Poole held a public meeting on Monday 10 December to discuss a proposal for a Solar Pyramid tourist attraction for Poole.
Around 200 residents attended the meeting at Lighthouse, Poole Centre for the Arts, to hear details of the project and the Council's role in evaluating the proposal put forward by a private company, Solar Pyramid Ltd
.
Graham Richardson, Head of Poole Tourism, gave a presentation on the Solar Pyramid concept, before Jim Bright, Strategic Director for Borough of Poole, explained the work undertaken to date by the Council in considering the proposal and what will happen next.
A panel, including Cllr Brian Leverett, Leader of the Council, also responded to questions from residents.
Details of the Solar Pyramid project were also presented to Council officers, Councillors and members of the local business community at a meeting held earlier in the day at Compton Acres
.
Cllr Brian Leverett said: "The Council has a duty to consider all proposals which could benefit the economy of the town. At this early stage, we want to establish whether this proposal is in the best interests of Poole. The Council is keen to listen to opinions from all sectors of the community, including local residents and businesses. When the Council has heard more about the proposal it will be able to make a considered assessment of whether the project is right for Poole."
Jim Bright, Strategic Director, Borough of Poole, said: "This proposal is very much in an exploratory phase and the only Council decision made so far has been to undertake evaluation and assessment work.
"We have asked Solar Pyramid Ltd to present an outline business case, at which stage the Council will be able to evaluate the viability of the proposal and identify the most suitable locations in Poole."
