4 Dec 07Children's Centre Opens In Creekmoor
Parents and children joined in the festive fun to celebrate the opening of the new Creekmoor Children's Centre - a 'one-stop shop' for family advice and support.
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Jeff Allen, officially opened the Children's Centre at Creekmoor Library, on Northmead Drive, on Tuesday December 4.
Families were invited to enjoy the fun between 10am and 4.30pm and take part in a host of free activities, including story-telling, baby bounce, face-painting and Christmas decoration making.
The new centre will offer families with young children access to professional support, from advice on health and childcare to guidance on returning to work and finding employment.
Linda Northover, Creekmoor Children's Centre Manager, said: "I am extremely excited about this new centre. My experience as a headteacher in a school for 3 to 11 year olds has helped me understand the crucial role parents and carers play in all aspects of a child's development. I hope the services we can offer at our new centre will provide invaluable support to families with young children in the Creekmoor community. I will shortly be setting up a parents' forum to find out what and how we can best provide services to support families."
Borough of Poole is opening six Children's Centres across Poole providing local access to a range of services, information and support for all parents with young children. Poole's first Children's Centre, in Hamworthy, opened in August. A third centre will open at Rossmore Community School
at the end of January.
Families will be able to access a further three Children's Centres which are scheduled to open at the Ted Webster Family Centre in Parkstone, Canford Heath and Old Town First School before the end of 2008.
Cllr Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Children's Services, Borough of Poole, said: "Our Children's Centres are about giving all children the very best start in life. They will be key providers of family services and offer a focus for community life, bringing together childcare, early education and play, health services and family support. Raising the next generation of Poole residents is a most important task and, these days, parents need all the help we can give them. Parents will be encouraged to help out with running the projects and making sure the support is what they want."
Parents and carers with young children can visit Creekmoor Children's Centre and meet the team between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. For further information, please contact Creekmoor Children's Centre on 01202 261961 or email: creekmoorchildrenscentre@poole.gov.uk
