Caring For Someone With Diabetes

A free study day is available to offer advice and support for people in Poole who are looking after a friend or relative with long-term complications from diabetes link will open in new window.

The study day will take place on 5 December in Wallisdown between 10.30am - 3.30pm.

Experts will be on hand throughout the day to give presentations on both the medical and social aspects of care and there will be information about the help available from hospitals, GPs and Social Services.

Diabetes is a condition that is on the increase in the UK. In some cases complications can develop which can affect a persons sight, heart, kidneys and nerves. It is in these cases that people may need extra help from a friend or relative to help them cope with their condition.

Many people who have diabetes are able to manage the condition independently with medication, change of diet and lifestyle changes.

The study day is a joint project between Borough of Poole's Adult Social Services and St John Ambulance link will open in new window.

Val Mitchell, Carers Services Manager, Adult Social Services, Borough of Poole, said: "A day like this is aimed at supporting those who are caring for the patient at home. It is an opportunity for carers to meet others in a similar position, gain information and have questions answered."
