Have You Registered Yet?

Have you returned your electoral registration form? If not, you could be running the risk of a £1,000 fine.

More than 50,000 households in Poole have so far completed and returned forms which ensure people aged 18 and over are able to vote.

However, Borough of Poole's Electoral Services staff are waiting to hear from more than 12,000 households in Poole which are still to return a completed Register of Electors Form.

Households who fail to return their registration forms can face prosecution and the risk of a heavy fine of up to £1,000. They could also face problems obtaining credit.

A team of canvassers will be visiting properties over the next two weeks to encourage householders to complete their forms.

Borough of Poole is required to compile the Electoral Register so people living in the borough can vote in local, national and European elections. The Register of Electors is updated once a year during September, October and November before a new version is published in December.

Registration forms were sent to every household in Poole early in September. Two reminders have since been sent out to all households which have not returned a completed form.

Paul Morris, Electoral Registration and Returning Officer, Borough of Poole, said: "Failure to complete a registration form not only means you may not be able to vote in any elections that might be held during the coming year. If your name is not included on the register you can experience difficulties in obtaining credit, as well as risking prosecution and the threat of a heavy fine."

The registration form is available to download. Alternatively, contact Electoral Services on 01202 633061 or email electoral.services@poole.gov.uk.
