Christmas Recycling Made Easy

Everyone knows that Christmas time means extra waste, a direct result of all those lovely presents and the indulgent eating and drinking which takes place over the festive period.

Christmas cards, wrapping paper, cardboard boxes, the numerous pickles and sauces jars not to mention the wine bottles and beer cans can all be recycled through the new blue bin scheme. Residents are reminded to squash their recycling to allow maximum capacity.

In addition to the blue bins, residents are being provided with clear plastic sacks to accommodate Christmas recycling. The Council will also happily collect any excess recycling presented for collection in cardboard boxes on your first day of collection following Christmas. Residents are advised to check their collection calendar for their particular dates.

Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: "Following the successful launch of the blue bin recycling scheme which is now collecting an impressive10 times the waste that the previous black box and bring site collection schemes achieved, the Borough of Poole is aiming to make the this year's Christmas recycling even easier for Poole residents and I ask for your continued support over this period."

Christmas trees can be recycled at Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre and Upton Country Park from the 2nd to the 14th January. Bulky household waste can be disposed of at the Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre, which is open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Opening hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Keen recyclers may be finding that they do not require such a large refuse bin to accommodate their general waste but could benefit from a larger recycling bin. If this is you, contact Environmental & Consumer Protection Services who will be happy to discuss the possibility of issuing alternative sized bins.
