Council Work Life Balance Success

The Borough of Poole has successfully gained the Work-Life Balance Standard for the second time.

The standard encourages employers to introduce working practices such as flexitime, which are designed to help balance work with other commitments more successfully.

Awarded for three years, Poole was the first Council to achieve the prestigious award in December 2000.

Councillor Neil Sorton, Portfolio Holder for Resources, said: "Employees are crucial to the delivery of excellent services. By taking account of the pressures on them and providing flexible solutions, the Council can significantly help its recruitment and retention of quality staff who then go on to deliver these essential services for residents."

The assessor's report found that: "The Management Team's Leadership and commitment to work life balance plus recognising that people are the lifeblood of the organisation has supported ongoing development of the Borough's work life balance strategy".

The Borough is committed to further improve its work life balance arrangements in a way that supports service delivery. This includes flexitime, job sharing, flexible working, provision of Flippers, an excellent self financing nursery care scheme and a range of other staff support arrangements.
