Best Value Partnership for Vehicles in Poole

The Borough of Poole will officially sign up to a Best Value Partnership this week with private company MHS Highway Hire. This partnership promises to provide people in Poole with high quality and reliable services from a 130 strong vehicle fleet.

MHS Highway Hire will procure, manage and maintain vehicles ranging from new refuse trucks to day centre buses, on behalf of the Council. The company were selected as preferred bidders and negotiations have been ongoing to agree the contract with interim arrangements in place since 1 November 2001.

Councillor Bob Williams, Executive Spokesperson for Environment and Prosperity, said: "This is a prime example of a Best Value Partnership and we are confident that MHS will deliver the highest quality service to residents in the Borough. People in Poole have already started to see the benefit of this Partnership and the whole package of vehicles will be a great asset to the modernisation of services in Poole. We can now look forward to reaching the high standards of service that the community expect."

Ian Handley, Managing Director, MHS, said: "We are delighted to win the contract and look forward to developing a base in Poole. Our intention is to establish a good relationship with the Borough and provide a quality fleet of vehicles."

The contract will take effect from 1 January 2002 when staff will officially transfer to MHS. All improvement works will be carried out in the workshops at Creekmoor which will be fully controlled by MHS.
