Submission Day for Bridge Bid

On Friday 14 November John Biggs from Borough of Poole will be making his way to the offices of the Department of Environment, Transport & the Regions (DOETR), in London, to deliver the Council's bid for the Poole Harbour Bridge.

The Poole Harbour Bridge scheme found itself back under the spotlight in June when the Government announced that it would be reviewing all road building plans. As part of this exercise the DOETR sent out a consultation paper "What Role for Trunk Roads in England".

Poole Council have spent the past few months working on a response to the consultation papers relevant to the Poole Harbour Bridge. The response focuses on the strategic importance of the Port and sustainable economic development of the area.

John Biggs, Team Leader, Planning Design and Conservation and one of the team who has been working on the response paper, said: "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work on this and especially to be given the responsibility to deliver it into the hands of the Government. This bid represents Poole's future."

John McBride, Policy Director for Borough of Poole and lead officer for the Poole Harbour Bridge campaign said: "A lot of hard work has gone into this response paper and we all hope it ensures that Poole Harbour Bridge remains in the Government's trunk road scheme."

Over the next few months ministers and civil servants will be looking over the supporting evidence for each of the schemes under review and an announcement is expected next spring.
