St Georges Field Recreation Ground
A project at St Georges Field in Oakdale to reconfigure and enhance the existing play area and its entrance in a way that will improve the quality of life for its immediate neighbours.
Work started on site August 2007 with the installation of a 'goal end' which includes a football goal and accuracy skills panel, basketball hoop and cricket wicket fronted by tarmac with sports markings. Quickly popular, and installed just outside the fenced play area, it has succeeded in moving ball games away from neighbouring homes. The facility has since been further improved with the addition of a litter bin and two 'team' benches.
The small children's play area at St Georges Field was refurbished in January 2008, and at the end of April an order was placed for a range of low-level wooden adventure play that will be installed into the grass area, suitable for toddlers. It is likely to be ready for use by mid-July.
