This play area was improved as part of the play builder project in 2009. The fenced play space caters for younger children with improved facilities on the upper level. the old climbing wall and somersault bars were removed and in their place is a new cone climber rope spinning top and a rope bridge. The old springy platforms were always very popular so these have been replaced with three new ones.
To enhance the more natural feel of the upper level the old metal barriers and concrete slabs have been replaced with a wooden stockade fence and a rubber "tiger mulch" surface. A new bench has been installed along with an informal turf and timber has also been created at the highest point of the slope.
In the space below, the two old "springers" had reached the end of their useful life and have been replaced. The existing climbing frame with slide and monkey bars is retained along with the junior and cradle swings and the small roundabout.
More improvements have been made outside the fenced space with the construction of a surfaced rebound wall, a buddy swing and a cable way (zip wire) to provide more interest for older children along with seats and benches and an extra litter bin.
The existing youth shelter remains along with a separate surfaced basket ball hoop.
The new play area at Alexandra Park was completed and opened on the 28th May 2010.
This site now offers a range of challenges suitable for children from 3 to 14+ years of age.
The play equipment in this play area was manufactured and installed to comply with current safety standards applying at the time of installation and all items of equipment are provided with a safer surface where required.
The play equipment and the immediate surrounding areas are inspected on a regular basis. An annual inspection is also carried out by an independent qualified organisation that prepares a safety audit and a report to enable the Council to plan long term maintenance and renewal.
This site is easily accessible from Palmerston Road and also Alexander Road via an excellent footpath network. We encourage the use of all out facilities by everyone. Please let us know if you have any suggestions on how we could improve this facility for you.
