Cabinet

The role of Cabinet

The Cabinet proposes the annual budget and Council Tax level, as well as policies for providing services. Council debates and approve these proposals. The Leader of the Cabinet also highlights priorities for action and works with the Cabinet to make day to day decisions in line with the strategies, policies and budgets approved by Council.

Decisions are made by the nine Councillors who are nominated to make–up the Cabinet or the seven ‘portfolio holders’ within the Cabinet can make individual decisions on behalf of the Cabinet. This speeds up the decision making process and make it more open and accountable to local people.

Current Cabinet Members

Current Portfolios are:

  • Leisure and Culture - Cllr Peter Adams
  • Wellbeing and Housing - Cllr Elaine Atkinson
  • Environment - Cllr Don Collier
  • Leader of the Council - Cllr Brian Leverett

  • Deputy Leader of the Council - Cllr Ann Stribley
  • Schools for the Future and Transportation - Cllr Mike White
