The Mayor

Mayor Of Poole 2008 - 2009Joyce Lavender, the new Mayor of Poole, has been a councillor since 2003 representing the Branksome West ward and is Poole's Champion or Older People.

After serving as Sheriff of Poole for the last year, her mayoralty began on 13 May. Joyce was born in Okehampton, Devon and after attending grammar school she worked for the civil service in London.

Married with one daughter who lives in Perth, Joyce came to live in Poole in 1964. Her hobbies and interests include sea swimming (weather permitting) going to the Lighthouse to hear the BSO, listening to the children read at St Aldhelm's School and singing in her church choir. Joyce is also an ardent supporter of Arsenal Football Club and the England Rugby Team and enjoys gardening and producing Church pantomimes (once with a cast of fifty!)

As Mayor of the Borough of Poole, Joyce is also Admiral of the Port, Mayor of the Staple and Clerk of the Market for the year 2008/09.

Her duties include, chairing all meetings of the full Council, overseeing all Citizenship Ceremonies for those becoming British citizens in Poole and representing the people of Poole as their Ambassador at the many functions and duties she will effect in the Mayoral year. The Mayor also receives any visiting members of the Royal Family on behalf of the people of Poole.
