If I am accepted on the Housing Register will I definitely be rehoused?

Unfortunately not, especially if you live outside the Borough of Poole. However applicants who live within the Borough of Poole or who work in the borough can expect to be housed eventually. This is because, although there are no guarantees, the Homechoice scheme operates on the basis of time on the waiting list, so that every applicant has the potential to come to the top of the list eventually.

Applicants who live outside the Borough of Poole and who do not work at least 26 hours within the Borough will always be considered after Poole residents on any shortlist for a property.

The Council allocates properties in accordance with the Council's Housing Register and Allocations Policy. Applicants who live outside the Borough of

Poole and who do not work in the Borough should be advised that no more than 10 properties per year can be allocated to this group. This does not apply to sheltered accommodation or applicants with an established need to move.

Properties will only be allocated to those applicants who are eligible.

How is my need to move recognised?

The Housing Register application form asks you to complete information in relation to your housing need, including how your current housing situation is detrimental to your household.  You will be required to provide evidence to support this information, a decision will then be made as to whether you are entitled to additional time on the register.

Special Housing Needs

We have a commitment to those leaving care and those in receipt of a care package. If you fall into either of these categories or have other special needs, please make it clear on your application form and contact your social worker or housing advisor for further advice.
