Resettlement Service

The Resettlement Service is funded by Supporting People and provides intensive short term (usually up to 6 months) to prevent homelessness, help people secure and maintain safe accommodation and move towards independent living.

The service particularly looks to help individuals and families who need extra support such as those with physical or mental health problems, young people, care leavers, teenage parents, people fleeing violence or abuse, people with drug and alcohol problems and ex-offenders.

Resettlement is generally practical solution focussed work helping clients to solve difficulties in their lives in areas such as:

  • Setting up and maintaining your tenancies -understanding your rights and responsibilities
  • Understanding housing options and finding alternative accommodation
  • Managing benefits, grants, debts and finances
  • Getting access to other service e.g. health care, legal help
  • Liaison and advocacy
  • Preventing eviction and threats of homelessness
  • Setting up home - e.g. setting up gas and electric
  • Developing independent living skills
  • Getting back into work and education
  • Managing personal safety and safety in the home

A Resettlement Officer meets with each client to make an assessment of his or her needs and goals and agree an individual support plan together. Our aim is provide the intensive support needed to help people out of crises, "launch" them into independently and develop the skills necessary to solve future problems for themselves.

Clients are currently referred to Resettlement by the Housing Advisers, though we hope to be able to open the service up to take referrals from other agencies in the near future.

We currently have 3 Resettlement Officers and one Senior Resettlement Officer.

As part of the Resettlement Service we also offer mediation visits for families where someone is at immediate risk of homelessness.
