Safer Neighbourhoods
Safer neighbourhoods is a commitment by community service providers to improve the quality of life in our communities. It will be achieved by working together to target the issues identified by local people as those that matter most.
Safer Neighbourhoods is about providing:
- Access to local policing teams and their community safety partners including local authority, health, housing, fire and rescue, youth organisations and probation through a named point of contact.
- Influence for local people over how community safety services are delivered in their area and what the local priorities are.
- Interventions by community safety partners and the community working together to tackle those priorities.
- Answers– sustainable solutions to problems and feedback on what has been done
There is currently three active Safer Neighbourhood Teams operating in Poole, these include Hamworthy, Rossmore and Alderney and Poole Town and Oakdale. In April 2008 a further four will be established covering Branksome and Newtown, Lower Parkstone, Pennhill and Sandbanks, Waterloo and Creekmoor and Merley and Broadstone. Bearwood will continue to be policed by North Bournemouth.
The current Safer Neighbourhood Teams work in partnership to identify local priority areas in the community, these are established through various methods of community engagement and public meetings. Once established a multi agency approach is taken and these priorities are resolved, feedback is then available to the community through the public meetings.
