Safer Homes Scheme
The Safer Homes Scheme aims to make homes safer by reducing the number of accidents in the home and helping prevent hospital admissions. We will do this by carrying out home assessments and giving practical advice and assistance to remedy hazards and security issues in the home.
Home Health and Safety Grants
Owner occupiers may be eligible for a grant of up to £1,000 to remedy any hazards identified by the Council's surveyor. Tenants may also qualify subject to landlords permissions and responsibilities. To qualify for assistance the householder should be:
- Over 60, disabled or vulnerable in some other way and;
- In receipt of an Income Related Benefit.
Works may include:
- Security & safety measures
- Small urgent house repairs
- Carpet and floor repairs
- Minor electrical works
- Smoke detectors
The Safer Homes Scheme is part of Housing and Community Service "Warmth and Wellbeing" programme.
