Poole Without Prejudice
Poole Without Prejudice brings together a variety of representatives from our organisation, Dorset Police, a number of housing associations, Gay and Grey, Dorset People First, and a number of other organisations. It tackles incidents of prejudice and discrimination due to race, sexuality, gender, age, faith and disability.
Poole Without Prejudice is split in to two groups:
- The Working Group is chaired by Sue Newell, Equalities Improvement and Policy Officer for the Borough of Poole, and is responsible for leading on the groups action plan
- The Reference Group is chaired by Jan Thurgood, Strategic Director for the Borough of Poole. This group provides a wider forum in which agencies can consult each other, share initiatives and promote equality across Poole
In its action plan for 2007/08, the group has committed to the following:
- To prepare and update a list of venues at which hate crime can be reported
- To continue to roll out and promote a new hate crime reporting form, covering race, sexuality, gender, age, faith and disability. This will be accompanied by support packs for both victims and practitioners, and practitioner training
- To carry out a media campaign raising awareness of prejudice incidents
