Council Tax discount
A full Council Tax bill assumes that there are two or more adults, aged 18 years or above living in a dwelling. If you are the only adult, you will be entitled to a 25% discount. If no-one is resident, a 10% discount will normally apply.
If any adult resident comes under the following categories, they will not be included when calculating the number of residents. This could result in either a 25% or 50% discount accordingly:
- Prisoners
- Full Time Students
- Student Nurses
- Youth Training Trainees
- Apprentices
- Foreign Diplomats
- School Leavers
- Patients who reside permanently in hospital
- Persons employed as Voluntary Care Workers
- Members of Religious Communities
- Residents of Hostels
- Visiting Forces
- The Severely Mentally Impaired
- Patients who reside permanently ia a Nursing or Residential Care Homes
- Persons aged 18 or over for whom child benefit is payable.
- Persons providing care for a disabled resident who is not their spouse, partner or child aged less than 18.
