Alexandra Park is the largest and only formal open space in Upper Parkstone. The 5.4 acre open space can be accessed from Alexandra Road and Palmerston Road.
Main features of the Park include a playground, a bowling green and an intricate path layout which includes a perimeter walk. The park is popular with residents for family recreation and they have recently formed The Friends of Alexandra Park.
Alexandra Park was identified as public open space as far back as 1885; the more formal areas were laid out in stages between 1906 and 1913 when finance was available. In November 1914 local residents petitioned for a bowling green to be laid out in the Park. Unfortunately, the war interceded and it wasn't until 1923 that the bowling green and pavilion were not built. In 1933 the Parks Committee viewed new plans for a new larger Bowling Pavilion, a Caretakers Lodge and conversion of the existing pavilion to public conveniences. These works were completed in 1935.
Little is known of later events in the Park and there has been no additions or alterations to the layout since the 1930's.
